- Gender
- Creativity
- Harmony
- Proportion
- Ascension
- Manifestation
- Illumination
- Integration
- Subjectivity
- Culmination
This sort of versatility is what captures themes of magic, wonder and creativity in the triangle meaning.
None of the other basic shapes offer this kind of inherent duplicity. When we turn a square on its side, the symbol meaning remains the same. Same with the circle - rolling it around, it's still a circle.
But the triangle proposes mammoth (polar even) variables in meanings when tipped top from bottom. To wit:
Symbolic Meaning of Upright vs Upside Down Triangles
These are just a few examples of how a simple shiftof this symbol can offer huge variations in meaning. I invite you to contemplate these and other similarities, as I believe pondering these solidifies the symbolic experience the triangle symbol has to share.
Any discussion about triangle meaning cannot continue without connecting it with the number three. Indeed, the triangle meaning is inseparable from the number three.
All the mystic teachings incorporate the power of three within their folds. Three represents the union of the numbers prior to it (One and Two). Numerologicallyspeaking, if One represents force, and Two represents an opening, then Three is the birthing of true wisdom.
Consider just a few time-honored triads proposed by esoteric triangles...
Historical and Cultural Trinities Represented by the Triangle
- Waxing, Waning, Full
- Spirit, Mind, Body
- Father, Son, Holy Ghost
- Mother, Father, Child
- Past, Present, Future
- Power, Intellect, Love
- Thought, Feeling, Emotion
- Mother, Maiden, Crone
- Love, Truth, Wisdom
- Creator, Destroyer, Sustainer
- Creation, Preservation, Destruction
The symbolic idea here, is that the vertical side represents one aspect, the horizontal side another aspect and the hypotenuse is offspring of the combining sides. The combination of one and another produces a new form of being altogether (a child, as it were).
This, among other complexities is where the triangle symbol meaning of creation/creativity is stemmed. Each side and corner sings out a melody, and their combination in form creates a marvelous harmonic orchestration.

Frida Kahlo to Diego Rivera
Diego,
Truth is, so great, that I wouldn't like to speak, or sleep, or listen, or love. To feel myself trapped, with no fear of blood, outside time and magic, within your own fear, and your great anguish, and within the very beating of your heart. All this madness, if I asked of you, I know, in your silence, there would only be confusion. I ask you for violence, in the nonsense, and you, you give me grace, your light and your warmth. I'd like to paint you, but there are no colors, because there are so many, in my confusion, the tangible form of my great love.

Fight Against the Sadness, Artax.
The Never ending Story Script Page 3 of 6
Bastian:
Atreyu and Artax had searched the Silver Mountains, the Desert of Shattered Hopes, and the Crystal Towers without success. And so, there was only one chance left. To find Morla, the ancient one, the wisest being in Fantasia whos home was the Shell Mountain somewhere in the deadly Swamps of Sadness.
Atreyu jumps off Artax and pulls him along through the swamp.
Bastian:
Everyone knew that whoever let the sadness overtake him would sink into the swamp.
Atreyu pulls his horse along saying reassuring things the whole time.
Atreyu:
That's it. You’re doing fine Artax.
Suddenly Artax stops and Atreyu pulls on the reigns. Artax doesn't budge
Atreyu:
Come on Artax, what's the matter? What's wrong? Come on boy! I understand, it's too difficult for you. (He tries pulling him in a different direction and steps into a puddle up to his waist. Suddenly he notices that Artax is sinking)
Atreyu:
Artax you're sinking! Come on turn around, you have to! Now ! Come on! Artax !
He goes closer to him and hugs him.
Atreyu:
Fight against the sadness Artax. Artax, please. You're letting the sadness of the swamps get to you. You have to try, you have to care. For me, I'm your friend, I love you.
(Artax doesn't move and Atreyu slaps the puddle sending water flying toward the horse. He yells at him again.)
Artax, you're sinking! Come on, turn around, you have to, now! Come on! Artax! Fight against the sadness, Artax. Artax, please, you're letting the sadness of the swamps get to you. You have to try. You have to care, for me, you're my friend, and I love you. Artax! Stupid horse! You've gotta move or you'll die! Move, please! I won't give up! Don't quit! Artax! Please!
(then he pleads with him.)
Move please. I won't give up! Jump quick! Artax please!
